The ancient craft of shibori takes its name from the Japanese verb ‘Shiboru’ meaning to wring, squeeze or press. Fabric is folded, pleated, cramped, wrapped, tied or stitched then traditionally dyed in indigo to create patterns on the cloth.
In this three hour workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of this magical process from setting up an indigo vat, preparing the cloth to dyeing up your own unique scarf and napery.
Indigo dyeing is messy so please wear clothing and shoes that are not precious. An apron is also recommended.
All materials are supplied.
